| The PUL 02 is a fast high voltage pulser designed primarily for pulse bunching an ion beam, as required in a typical Time of Flight system. | ![]() |
||||||||
| The system consists of a pulse control unit which has an integral coaxial cable for connection to the pulser vacuum feedthrough on the gun. Adjustment of the pulse height is provided by a front panel digidial, calibrated to give 5kV output for full scale. The vacuum feedthrough on the gun must be a 5kV SHV type to ensure compatibility and it is intended to drive an unterminated load with low capacitance (<10pf). The pulser will produce a pulse at the output 115nsec after it is triggered. To meet the key requirements of an ion beam pulse buncher, the pulser is designed to provide an ultra fast rise time. This is shown in the illustration below. The pulse stays high for a period of 40nsec, and then falls low. Damped oscillation of the voltage occurs after the pulse (and hence after the passage of the ion beam packet). |
