200V Pulser

PUL 01

The PUL 01 is a low voltage pulser primarily designed for pulsing an ion beam on for a short period, as required in a typical Time of Flight system.

The system consists of a pulse control unit connected to a compact HT pulse unit by 1m long cables. This unit connects in turn to the pulser vacuum feedthrough on the ion gun via a short coaxial cable (< 10cm) fitted with a male BNC connector.

For compatibility the vacuum feedthrough on the gun must be a BNC type. The PUL 01 is intended to drive an unterminated load of low capacitance (< 5pf).

The pulse control unit requires mains power, and has front panel controls to set the pulse type, pulse height and pulse length.
The pulser can be set in one of two modes:

  1. Positive mode: The output stays at ground potential until triggered at which point it pulses to a positive voltage, set by the front panel voltage control on the pulse control unit, then back to 0 volts.

  2. Negative mode: The output stays at the set voltage, set by the front panel voltage control on the pulse control unit, until triggered at which point it pulses to 0 volts then back up to the set voltage.
