RASTER CONTROLLER

RSU 1001

The RSU1001 Raster Controller is a digital raster system, offering a versatile range of features. The unit is computer controlled only via a RS232.

It can take in external X and Y ramps ( +/-10V), and an external pixel clock, allowing the step from one pixel to the next to be remotely controlled.

The unit produces ±10 volt ramps, which are sent to the remote scan amplifier, mounted close to the ion or electron probe.

Standard Operational Modes.

The RSU 1001 has three methods of producing and controlling a raster.

(i) The raster can be generated and controlled only by the RSU1001

(ii) It can be generated and controlled by the RSU1001, but in slow scan, the step from one pixel to the next can be controlled by an external pixel clock.

(iii) External ± 10 volt ramps can be connected to the X and Y ramp inputs on the back of the RSU1001, with the controller set to “Ext” these ramps will then be used to drive the scan amp. Magnification and shift controls are still active.

Raster Controller - Connections.

Mains Power The unit can be run off either 230V 50Hz, or 110V 60Hz, and is switched on the back panel, just beside the Power Input. There must be an earth line in the mains power cable.

Pixel in This is the input for the External Pixel Clock. The clock pulse should conform to the RS422 standard, and can be up to 3.2MHz.

Pixel Out This is a differential output signal of the Pixel Clock.

Single Shot in Sets up and triggers a single frame, for photography.

Single shot out Provides a start of single frame pulse to synchronise a camera.

Polarity in Tells the unit the Polarity of the Extraction Field, to use with the Extract Field Compensation facility.

Line sync Provides a pulse at the start of each Line.

Status Switches the Extract Field Compensation On or Off.

Frame sync Provides a pulse at the start of each Frame.

Remote RS232 connector for remote control.

ScanAmp Output from the Raster Controller to the remote scan amplifier, taking rails, ±10V rasters, shift and magnification information.

X Mon In Input for an externally generated X ramp , at ±10V full scale.

X Mon Out. A ±10V output of the ramp being used by the scan amplifier. Note that these ramps are not scan rotated.

Y Mon In Input for an externally generated Y ramp , at ±10V full scale

Y Mon Out A ±10V output of the ramp being used by the scan amplifier. Note that these ramps are not scan rotated.

Beam Energy Input for a Beam Energy Monitor signal, of 0 to 10 volts, representing 0 to 100%.

Internal TV Sync This is an output for the internally generated TV sync, and must be linked externally to the C. Sync input if it is to be used.

C Sync In This is the input for the TV rate Composite Sync signal, which can be linked to the internal TV Sync, or to an external sync.

C Sync Out This is the output of the TV Composite Sync being used, and should be used to drive the TV monitor.
