J105 SIMS of Organic Samples
A significant feature of the J105 SIMS is its ability to cope with real samples of varying height. Signal intensity and mass accuracy are maintained across different regions of the sample. A good example of this is provided by recent work on stents.

Figure 1 shows a total ion image of a stent, with signal from all of the upper half of the cylindrical shape and also some signal from the back of the cylinder. Figure 2 shows the stent flattened, but still with significant topography; this is a thermal image of mass 69.03 - C4H5O. The primary beam was 40 keV C60+.
The J105 SIMS, with high mass accuracy and MS-MS capability, is proving to be a highly effective tool in SIMS imaging of organic samples.
